If a contractor offers a drone-cleaning demonstration, treat it as a controlled test, not a spectacle or a guaranteed preview of full production. The useful outcome is evidence: whether the proposed method is legal and feasible at the site, compatible with the surface, controllable around people and property, and capable of meeting an agreed finish standard.
Before anyone schedules a flight
Confirm the proposed date, duration, cost, cancellation terms, test location, product, water source, property permissions, insurance requirements, and deliverables in writing. A demonstration described as free, same-week, or a fixed length is an offer term, not an industry standard.
For work or business under the FAA’s small-drone framework, the operation generally follows Part 107. The operator must determine whether the aircraft, pilot certificate, registration, Remote ID, airspace, operating limitations, and any authorization or waiver fit the intended flight. Property permission does not replace aviation compliance.
The site plan should also identify pedestrians, vehicles, entrances, adjacent property, overhead and facade obstacles, the controlled ground area, weather limits, emergency procedures, product handling, overspray, landscaping, drains, rinse water, and cleanup. If any elevated conventional work is included, OSHA’s fall-prevention guidance calls for planning the task, providing suitable equipment, and training workers.
A useful demonstration sequence
1. Scope the question. Identify the exact surface and contaminant, the proposed method, and what the test needs to prove. Select a representative area that can be inspected safely without creating a misleading before-and-after comparison.
2. Establish the go/no-go conditions. Review manufacturer guidance, surface condition, test chemistry, airspace, weather, spray drift, water and product supply, runoff, occupied-site controls, and stop-work criteria before launch.
3. Run and observe the test area. Record the product and dilution, application and rinse procedure, standoff, dwell, number of passes, weather, and any surface reaction. Keep viewers outside the controlled work area and let the pilot concentrate on the operation.
4. Inspect after the surface settles. Evaluate the agreed finish under representative light and viewing distance. Check for streaking, residue, color change, coating distress, water intrusion, overspray, runoff, and impact on adjacent materials or landscaping.

Who should be there
Include the property or facilities representative who understands the surface and site, plus the safety, security, engineering, environmental, procurement, or budget owner whose approval the full scope will need. For agencies and institutions, confirm procurement and public-space requirements before the visit rather than trying to solve them beside the aircraft.

- Who is the remote pilot in command, and what operating rule applies?
- Does this location or operation require airspace authorization or a waiver?
- What surface and contaminant are being tested, and what manufacturer guidance applies?
- What stops the flight or cleaning process?
- How are people, vehicles, openings, landscaping, adjacent property, and drains protected?
- What finish standard and inspection timing decide whether the test passed?
- What is included, what is excluded, and which offer terms are confirmed in writing?
Send the property address, representative photos, target surface, and known site constraints to ask whether a demonstration is appropriate and available. Confirm all timing, pricing, credentials, insurance, permissions, and deliverables before scheduling.
